Alfran India Completes Its First Shotcrete Project for UltraTech Cement

Alfran India has successfully completed its first shotcrete project in India using the patented ALFRANJET® technology. The work was carried out for UltraTech Cement at its Balaji plant and represents an important milestone in Alfran’s growth and the development of its local refractory installation capabilities.

The project was completed during the scheduled shutdown of the UltraTech Balaji plant in September 2023. It was also the first purchase order received from UltraTech Cement in India for a wet-mix refractory application.

Refractory Application at a High-Capacity Clinker Plant

The project was carried out at a clinker production facility with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes per day, equipped with two lines, six stages and FLSmidth technology.

The plant’s characteristics and operating conditions required careful planning, the selection of refractory solutions adapted to each area and the specific preparation of the application equipment.

ALFRANJET® Technology for UltraTech Cement

Alfran refractory solutions were selected according to the operating conditions of each area.

The main materials used were:

• ALFRANJET® 70, applied at the Cooler TAD V Joint.
• ALFRANJET® 70 SIC, installed at the Kiln Riser.

The ALFRANJET® wet-mix application system was used to install the new refractory lining in the different areas included within the project’s scope.

Specialised Application Technology and Equipment

The project required the preparation and coordination of specific equipment for shotcrete application.

This infrastructure made it possible to carry out the different stages of the work in an organised manner: anchor welding, insulation installation and application of the dense refractory lining.

Coordinating these activities was essential to ensure the correct execution of the work within the plant’s scheduled shutdown.

Developing Local Capabilities in India

This first project for UltraTech Cement represents a significant technical and commercial step forward for Alfran India.

The experience gained during the work will support the continued development of local application capabilities, strengthen the technical knowledge of the teams and consolidate ALFRANJET® as a solution for demanding refractory projects in the cement industry.
